Day 6
‘I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness.” Psalm 145:5-7
To ‘meditate on’ means to ‘mull over’, or ‘think about’. Viewed this way, we are almost always meditating. We can either use this for good or let it drive us into worry.
Left to themselves, our thoughts can easily mull away all day on worries and what ifs. However, none of this is restful. Anxiety is not from the Lord.
God wants us to remember Him, to rest in Him, to remember His Word and His promises. Sabbath rest reminds us that God is above all things and by meditating on His Word, we remind ourselves that He is greater than our worries. There is rest in reflecting on the Creator, the reason for our rest and the solution for every situation.

But meditating on God’s word is a form of rest. Instead of thinking about work, to do lists and concerns, we can call our attention to the One who is truly in control.

Have you tried meditating on scripture before?
Consider writing out today’s scripture on a post it note and putting it somewhere you will see every day. Or put a repeating reminder in your phone so that you are prompted to meditate on the splendour of God’s majesty throughout the day.
Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, on their own, my thoughts do not often lead me into Your rest. I tend to worry or think about things I can’t change. But this isn’t how You designed me to be. Your desire is for me to enter Your rest, to lean on You, to think about You always, as You are always thinking about me. As it says in Psalm 139: 16-17, How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! I want my thoughts to bring me closer to You, for them to be centered on Your goodness and on Your promises. Lord, let my mind meditate on You all day long so that every day, not just on the Sabbath, I am intentionally engaging with the rest and peace that is available to me as a gift from You. Thank You God for loving me so much and giving me rest. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
